Dozens of Passengers Involved in Fatal Accident near U.S.-Mexico Border in Holtville

HOLTVILLE, CA (March 2, 2021) – Tuesday morning, at least 15 people were killed in a semi-truck collision on State Route 115, near Norrish Road.

The events leading up to the deadly accident are still unknown. However, reports indicate that a big-rig and Ford Expedition were involved. Police arrived at the scene about 50 miles west of Arizona and 10 miles north of the border.

Due to the impact of the crash, 13 people were pronounced dead at the scene and 1 died at the hospital.

In addition, two passengers were taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley while four were airlifted to the trauma center at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. The driver of the gravel truck was identified as 68 year-old Joel Beltran of El Centro. He is also in the hospital.

There were a total of 25 passengers inside the SUV that collided with the semi-truck full of gravel. The semi-truck collision caused State Route 115 to close for a brief time. However, the roadway has since reopened.
