There's no excuse to retire your ice cream spoon after summer. (65 degrees is not cold.) Sure, it's fun to crank up the oven for pumpkin loaves and Bundt cakes, but ice cream is a great medium for wintry flavors. Jessica Mortarotti, founder and flavor developer for Carmela Ice Cream (named after her grandmother) is infusing autumn into her ice cream this month. Find her at the Culver City Farmers Market on Tuesday afternoons, where she's offering up roasted squash, cardamom, and nutmeg ice cream, as well as a seasonal spiced apple sorbet (and the rest of her popular flavors, of course).

Carmela's Locations:

Farmers Markets: Culver City, Hollywood, La Cañada Flintridge, South Pasadena.

Stores: Canyon Gourmet, Joan's on Third, Locali, Market Gourmet Sweets for the Soul.
