We're still not sure if the song “Asian Girlz” was a ploy for publicity or just a straight-up joke. But while the racist track's lyrics (Korean barbecue / Bitch I love you / I love your creamy yellow thighs / Ooh your slanted eyes) made headlines, some in the L.A. music industry clearly weren't laughing.

The reaction to Day Above Ground's attempt at a song cost the L.A. band a job:

Following our coverage of the “Asian Girlz” controversy, the House of Blues in West Hollywood has quietly pulled the plug on the band's Aug. 10 gig there.

We reached out to the venue for comment but have yet to hear back. This much is clear:

Day Above Ground is no longer on the night's bill. Can you say backfire?

Not only that, but backlash. We noted that there was some talk of protesting the band's appearance at the Sunset Strip club. Guess HOB pulled the rug out from under that idea.

The band has been grilled online, often by Asian-Americans unhappy about the lyrics and tone of the track.

We'd describe how awful it is, but you just have to see it for yourself.

[Added at 1:30 p.m.]: Jim Yeager of the House of Blues did get back to us. He had this to say:

The promoter does not have the band on the show list anymore.

So maybe it was the promoter that got cold feet.
