If Wu-Tang Clan is the best thing to come from Staten Island, then As Tall As Lions is Long Island's greatest export. The dreamy digiprog rock band from New York's boner plays a second installment of their two night stop at El Rey tonight, in support of their third album, You Can't Take It With You, released August 18th. Intermixing Brit-pop guitar tinkling and high-flying vocals of singer-guitarist Dan Nigro with occasional electronic stutter-stepping beats, the band's sound leans towards the Doves . Like the the best late-nineties rock from the U.K., As Tall As Lions infuses the catchy pop rhythms with a rock edge, thereby producing a sound that wouldn't be acceptable for a listening at an old folks home (unlike the purveyors of supreme flaccidity, Coldplay). New York's wang, you've done well.
