Pop-up artist showcase at secret DTLA location to feature visual art installation, renowned DJs and beatmakers and movies illuminated by XGIMI’s powerful projectors

The relationship between technology and creativity is less than ethereal – or so says projector manufacturer XGIMI.  Determined to change people’s minds about how technology can power creativity and vice versa, XGIMI set out to create an event that uses their projectors to elevate culture through art, music and film.  From this came Paint & Projections with Beats + Brews – a one-night only free pop-up artist showcase at a secret location in the Art & Fashion District of DTLA on Saturday, August 21 – attendees can try and snag an RSVP by registering via the event website – space is very limited and on a first served basis.

According to XGIMI, Paint and Projections aims to dispel the notion that projectors are just for business and boardrooms, and instead, are creative tools and platforms for mobile content creation that can elevate art, music, film and more.  To further this concept, XGIMI partnered with LA-based visual artists, Chris Sharp, and MannyJStyle, for an exclusive visual art installation powered by XGIMI’s Horizon Pro 4K projector. Sharp is a master at creating depth, scale and stunning visual scenes from the ground up, imbibed with his Asemic Neosymbolism art philosophy. As Sharp states, “symbols stripped of their cultural references become doorways into the primal spirit,” with open spaces which are left open to the viewer to interpret. Paint and Projections powered by XGIMI projectors will allow Sharp to work with a new visual medium to achieve a unique and one-of-a-kind visual art experience.

Sharp dropped us this note on this XGIMI art installation:

“For this event I’ll be creating a brand new projection mapped art installation “portal”. I’ll also be showing a preview of my “Kryptotems” NFT drop that I’ve been working on for the last few months. My aim is to create work that returns us to our primal nature, beyond the conditions of our society and our environment, into the true environment of energetic reality, a window into your own spirit, to your own energetic experience. Symbols stripped of their cultural references become doorways into the primal spirit. My work is a catalyst creating an opportunity for pure experiences of these energetic symbols. I am an experiencer, one who is seeing and bringing forth to those who are yet to see.”

Alongside the visual art installation, live music will come in the form of DJs and beatmakers who will take guests through a musical journey from classic hip-hop to future dance to experimental beats, with visual projections. Music artists will include legacy scratch hip-hop artist DJ Revolution, dance and meditative beat music artist SHIVARASA, Timetable/Warp Records experimental beat artist 4THSEX, and more; all set against motion visuals powered by projections.

XGIMI’s 4K projectors will also be powering a large outdoor screen illuminating a mini short-film screening that includes a documentary about a cultural movement centered on the LA beat scene, the rise of an iconic hip-hop artist in his own words, a unique visual mixtape series, and other shorts centered on music and culture. Attendees will walk away with a new appreciation of art, music and film as seen through the XGIMI “lens.”
