A suspect was arrested in connection with a prescription drug ring that was tied to the death of actor Corey Haim, a spokeswoman for state Attorney General Jerry Brown confirmed. The spokeswoman would not reveal the suspect's name or any other details about the pending case, however.

Haim died last week after his mother called 911 and reported he was in distress at the Burbank apartment they shared. Authorities stated that prescription drugs were discovered in the residence, and later reports indicated Valium, Vicodin and a muscle relaxant were found.

Two days later, Brown announced that an “unauthorized” prescription in Haim's name, apparently found at the apartment, was linked to a San Diego-based ring that peddled blank prescription pads.

The ring was the source of as many as 5,000 illicit prescriptions, his office stated. The ring allegedly sold the pads to users or dealers who then flipped them to users.

“Corey Haim's death is yet another tragedy linked to the growing problem of prescription-drug abuse,” Brown stated. “This problem is increasingly linked to criminal organizations, like the illegal and massive prescription-drug ring under investigation. It's a serious public health problem.”

While authorities initially believed the prescription drugs discovered near Haim might have helped to trigger his death, his mother contends that the coroner told her the 38-year-old had an enlarged heart, pulmonary congestion and water in his lungs when he died.
