It probably wasn't the classiest move when Dodgers players decided to take a dip in the Arizona Diamondbacks' home field pool after beating the Phoenix team to take the National League West title yesterday.

But the reaction among zonies has been just as debased. Witness Arizona Republic sports writer Bob Young, who quickly used Dodger star Yasiel Puig's immigrant status against him:

If you said something like that in L.A., you might be fired. But given that Young is in the anti-immigrant capital of America, he stood on safe ground.

Even after suffering some pretty harsh feedback for yesterday's tweet, the sports writer today offered up a pretty hollow apology, saying that he was simply referring to Puig's own true story of how he got to the United States.

Whew. And we thought the original tweet was a reference to the epithet “wetback,” which would mainly apply to Mexican immigrants anyway.

Of course, that didn't stop others in the highly enlightened Grand Canyon State from making references on social media to all those soaked Latino players wearing Dodger blue.
