Fatal Costa Mesa Multi-Vehicle Crash on Sunflower Avenue

COSTA MESA, CA (May 19, 2021) – Wednesday afternoon, 53-year-old Aristides Guerra was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Bear Street.

According to CHP, Guerra was driving an SUV on Sunflower Avenue around 1:54 p.m. Officers then received reports of a serious multi-car crash.

Shortly after, emergency crews arrived at the scene and located 4 damaged vehicles. Although, the events leading up to the crash remain unclear.

Costa Mesa Fire and Rescue arrived and extracted Aristides Guerra, who was pinned underneath an overturned vehicle. As a result, he was later pronounced dead on scene.

Meanwhile, a second driver and their two passengers were taken to a local hospital for further treatment. In addition, a third driver complained of back pain, but did not require medical transportation. The driver of the fourth vehicle was not injured.

At this time, police are still working to determine the factors that led to the deadly crash.
