At Greg Behrendt's comedy and music showcase Starfish Circus I, a highlight was house band the Reigning Monarchs — featuring Behrendt on rhythm guitar — covering the Smiths' “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want.” For Starfish Circus II, Behrendt promises “glittery guitars with leopard-print pickguards and the best instrumental surf and ska music from the 27th most important band of all time.” He'll don his “regulation Reigning Monarchs uniform, comprised of tuxedo pants, combat boots, cardigan sweater, eye cream and regret,” and welcome guests Jimmy Pardo, Karen Kilgariff and Kyle Kinane. As a former talk show host, Sex and the City writer and co-author (with Liz Tucillo) of He's Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys, among numerous other credits, isn't Behrendt too famous for this type of thing? “No,” he replies, “I'm not famous enough; that's why we've tied our balloon to Jimmy Pardo, Karen Kilgariff, Kyle Kinane and the Lake Street Creamery.” Largo at the Coronet, 366 N. La Cienega Blvd.; Mon., Sept. 26, 9 p.m; $20. (310) 855-0350.
