A stealth-looking private-style jet with the markings of the Mexican federal police on its side ran off a runway at Van Nuys airport Friday afternoon.

A KTLA News helicopter captured images of the jet's “Policia Federal” markings, and the station reports that the aircraft was indeed registered out of Mexico. But before too much imagery could be captured workers were seen covering up the markings with plastic sheeting.

The mysterious incident was reported at 1:14 p.m., Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey stated.

No injuries or damage was reported, but KTLA noted that skid marks could be seen halfway down the runway. The small, charcoal-colored aircraft eventually parked in a safety zone about 75 feet from the end of that runway.

The station reports the jet was headed for Tucson.

The so-called federales have been involved in Mexico's bloody drug war, but sometimes, allegedly, on the wrong side of the battle.
