Marco Benitez Arrested after Fatal DUI Collision near Maryland Parkway

LAS VEGAS, NV (November 14, 2022) – Friday night, Antonio Zabala and Karina Del Carmen Lopez were killed in a bicycle crash on Flamingo Road.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m., near the intersection of Flamingo Road and Maryland Parkway on November 4th.

Per reports, Marco Benitez was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac weaving in and out of travel lanes before rear-ending a 2011 Kia Sorento.

As Benitez attempted to flee the scene, he struck two bicyclists and caused a 10-car pile up at the intersection.

Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the female cyclist dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported the male cyclist to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, the male cyclist succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Authorities later identified the deceased victims as a couple, Antonio Zabala, 36, and Karina Del Carmen Lopez, 37.

Following preliminary duties, officers located Benitez trapped inside his vehicle. Police took him into custody where he currently faces 17 charges including DUI resulting in death or grievous bodily harm.

Benitez later pleaded not guilty on Thursday and is still being held at the Clark County Detention Center with $100,000 bail in court.

Furthermore, the loved ones of Antonio set up a GoFundMe page to help with costs during this time.
