Outgoing mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has kept up a full schedule in the waning days of his administration. He has repeatedly said that he will keep working until his term ends at 11:59 and 59 seconds on the night of Sunday, June 30.

The same, however, cannot be said for his staff. The mayor's people have been drifting to the exits for a while, but since May it's turned into a stampede.
Two months ago, the mayor had a staff of 179 employees. As of last Friday, it was down to 37.

From the looks of things, it does not appear that many Villaraigosa staffers will stay on with incoming Mayor Eric Garcetti.
“We're looking for people who are best-aligned with Mayor-elect Garcetti's agenda,” said Garcetti's spokesman, Yusef Robb. “That will include some members of the current administration, but many more from outside.”
Garcetti hinted during the campaign that he would prefer to have a clean slate when he takes over on July 1. For one thing, he said he did not understand why mayors kept the same department heads over several administrations, and vowed to re-interview all of Villaraigosa's general managers.
Garcetti — who is vacationing in Belize this week — has announced only one hire so far: chief of staff Ana Guerrero.
Insiders have speculated that Fire Chief Brian Cummings is among those who might not last long in the Garcetti administration.
“He's going to take a careful look at every department head and make sure they have what it takes to do the job,” Robb said.
He declined to discuss names.
