55-Year-Old Semi-Truck Driver Killed in DUI Accident near O Street

MERCED, CA (March 10, 2023) – Late Monday night, Anthony Carrasco was arrested after a fatal big-rig crash on Highway 99.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m., on the southbound lanes of the freeway near O Street on March 6th.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 35-year-old Carrasco attempted to pass a big-rig that was pulling a set of double trailers in a tight lane. The SUV then became wedged in between the trailer and the guard rail.

As a result, the big-rig jackknifed and overturned down a steep embankment, trapping the driver inside. Medics arrived and extricated the driver from the semi-truck. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, crews pronounced the semi-truck driver dead at the scene.

Following preliminary duties, officers arrested and booked 35-year-old Carrasco, of Ceres into the Merced County Jail for felony DUI.

At this time, an active investigation is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided.
