Yet another homicide was reported today in the Palms neighborhood of L.A.'s Westside, police said.

Cops responding to a 2:27 p.m. call of shots fired in the 3300 block of Mentone Avenue found a male down, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Drake Madison

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics declared the victim dead at the scene, he said.

The LAFD got its first call about the situation at 2:25 p.m., said department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

A vehicle that might have been involved in the attack was described as a Dodge Ram pickup truck, Madison said. The shooter remained at-large.

A Los Angeles Unified School District police sergeant told us that no campuses in the area were on lockdown. One non-district preschool in the area was apparently placed on lockdown as a precaution, however.

Today's shooting comes after a pair of attacks shocked the area Thursday.

One young man was killed and two others were injured in a shooting at nearby Woodbine Park. A separate attack at a strip mall at National Boulevard and Overland Avenue injured two people hit by gunfire.

The area is claimed by a gang called West Side Locos. Two experts we talked to said that set might have some beef with a gang called Blasten Fools Gangsta Crips.

Police indicated that both of those Thursday shootings, 20 minutes and little more than a few blocks apart, were gang-related.

It's yet not clear if today's attack was gang-related or perhaps driven by revenge.
