Anna's Italian Restaurant has been serving homestyle fare like veal parmigiana and fettuccine alla romana on Pico Boulevard in West L.A. since 1969, but the eatery will be closing June 9th. The local institution was contacted with an unsolicited offer, and has decided to sell. We talked to Anna's co-owner Tony Sakatin, who told us that “they're not telling us what they're gonna do. They have a whole program of promotions going into effect when they take over.” The new owners are planning to remodel the space from scratch.

Sakatin pointed out that LA Weekly has been “calling us to sell advertising for years. But nobody from editorial. For 41 years, no one pays attention. Then we're closing and somebody calls.” Sakatin himself doesn't plan on any future restaurant endeavors. “I've reached an age where I don't want to work anymore. We've been open for long enough that it takes a toll on you.”

The sale is in motion, with the restaurant simply waiting for the license transfer. A simple glance at the paperwork posted outside reveals that the space is being purchased by Medium Rare Entertainment, Inc., and that the business is set to be called The Welles Bourne. Sakatin divulged slightly more information, telling us that the woman purchasing was a chef named Sophie Huterstein. “She's from England,” he said.

We'll keep you posted as more information surfaces. But in the meantime, this is your last chance to eat at Anna's before it vanishes for good.
