It would be aca-awkward if you don't come out to the Nuart to catch the 2012 female-centric comedy flick that reignited our interest in acoustic singing groups. With a charming cast led by Anna Kendrick, Pitch Perfect follows Beca (Kendrick) as she is sucked into the world of mash-up battles and college music competitions. Director Jason Moore will appear in person to introduce the film before the midnight screening.

Sunday, Jan. 19

Live from Moscow comes the Bolshoi Ballet performance of Jewels, George Balanchine's 1967 ballet honoring the cities of Paris, New York and St. Petersburg. Each city is represented by a different gemstone and composer: emeralds with Fauré for Paris, rubies with Stravinsky for New York, diamonds with Tchaikovsky for Russia. The Crest Westwood Theater opens its doors at 11:30 a.m., and the film officially kicks off at noon.

Meanwhile, at the Spielberg Theatre at the Egyptian, Los Angeles Filmforum presents two Los Angeles premieres of work by Lynne Sachs. The New York filmmaker will be there in person alongside The Last Happy Day, her documentary about Jewish writer Sandor (Alexander) Lenard, a distant cousin of Sachs' who fled the Nazis to Rome and later translated Winnie the Pooh into Latin. The second film is Wind in Our Hair, a narrative inspired by Argentine writer Julio Cortázar's stories, which follows four girls in Buenos Aires. The event begins at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 22

Continuing its Coming Back Cinema series, Los Feliz 3 shows The Hudsucker Proxy from the Coen brothers and co-writer Sam Raimi. Mailroom clerk Norville Barnes (Tim Robbins) is promoted to the president of the company in a scheme concocted by board member Sidney J. Mussburger (Paul Newman) to wrest control of the company stocks. The hilarity begins at 9:40 p.m. at $10 per ticket.
