The City of Los Angeles has approved a $1.6 billion “Angels Landing” project that would produce the third tallest building in downtown L.A.

A dual-tower project with a 63-story and 42-story building will be home to 1.2 million square feet of a luxury hotel, an open-air plaza, apartments and condominiums by 2028.

“On an urban scale, the project strives to connect the various neighborhoods that converge at this location, including the Financial District, the Historic Core, the Cultural District and Civic Center,” Handel Architects describe on its website. “By using the buildings’ architecture and landscaping, the design encourages the fluid movement of people into and through the site’s many building lobbies, retail storefronts and plazas.”

The plaza will hold 50,000 square feet of retail, while the apartments and condos will be part of 432 residential units.

The project’s location is in downtown L.A.’s Bunker Hill, in what was previously known as Angel Knoll Park.
