41-Year-Old Dead in Pedestrian Crash on Scott Road

WINCHESTER, CA (May 5, 2022) – A pedestrian crash along Highway 79 claimed the life of 41-year-old Andrew Lopez Saturday evening.

According to the police, the crash happened when an SUV hit Lopez around 10:30 p.m., just south of Scott Road.

Authorities said a 71-year-old Temecula man in a 2016 Toyota Rav4 struck Lopez while walking in the northbound traffic lane.

However, the Toyota driver fled the scene and did not render aid to the victim.

A witness who discovered Lopez’s body in the roadway contacted 911 and officers arrived a short time later.

Unfortunately, the responders declared Lopez dead at the scene.

In the end, authorities located the Toyota driver at a property in Hemet after being tracked using the collected evidence from the scene. The driver was arrested and charges are pending for felony hit-and-run.

Moreover, both directions of the roadway were temporarily shutdown to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.

Winchester Officials continue to investigate the fatal crash.

No words can mend the broken hearts and sorrow felt during this delicate moment. Deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of Andrew Lopez.
