Multiple Hospitalized after Two-Car Collision near Griffith Road

TURLOCK, CA (August 3, 2021) – Saturday night Andres Castaneda was arrested and Eduardo Flores and Karina Garcia were injured after a crash.

The crash occurred around 8:38 p.m., in the area of south Golden State Boulevard and Griffith Road near the Merced County border.

According to CHP, 26-year-old Castaneda of Planada, was driving a 2015 black Honda Accord south on Golden State Boulevard. He failed to slow down approaching the intersection.

As a result, Castaneda rear-ended a 2007 silver Chevy Silverado that was also traveling south, driven by 37-year-old Flores.

Garcia was sitting in the front seat of the Silverado, and a 3-year-old and 1-year-old were occupying the back seat. Both toddlers were properly restrained.

The 3-year-old boy sustained facial lacerations and a head injury, and was flown to Madera Children’s Hospital. Medics say he is expected to recover.

In addition, Andres Castaneda was suspected to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol at the time of the crash.

Castaneda was eventually taken to Memorial Medical Center. However, he is currently expected to face criminal charges of felony DUI.

For the safety of yourself and others around, never drive under the influence. If you’re unable to operate your vehicle, you can always contact a Lyft or Uber instead.

Once available, more information will be released.
