Update: The two were found safe and sound about 5 p.m., according to an LAPD announcement. If cops know where the girls were, they're not yet saying. Officers say they're investigating.

Two middle-school-age girls are missing from the Arleta area of the San Fernando Valley, and L.A. police are asking for your help in tracking them down.

Andrea Yribe, 14, and Samantha Villagran, 12, were last seen at the latter's place in the 14000 block of Van Nuys Boulevard Monday morning.

According to an LAPD statement:

The girls, believed to be with each other, have not been seen since. Both families told police that they were unaware of any problems that would cause the girls not to return home. Neither Andrea nor Samantha have a history of running- away nor is foul play suspected.

It is hooky season. Let's hope for the best. According to police:

Yribe has brown hair and eyes, is 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighs about 100 pounds. She was also wearing a white blouse, denim shorts and brown sandals.

Villagran has brown hair and brown eyes, is 5 feet 3 inches tall, and weighs about 95 pounds. She has a pierced lip. Sh was wearing a white blouse, denim shorts and brown sandals when she went missing.
