Along with performing a band's most popular album in its entirety, one recent trope is that of a band performing as a film plays on. Angular post-punk maestros No Age (guitarist Randy Randall and drummer Dean Spunt) tonight present a score inspired by Jean-Jacques Annaud's 1988 nature epic The Bear. Annaud, whose previous films were The Name of the Rose (a clergy murder-mystery starring Sean Connery most famously reviewed by the NME under the headline “Felonious Monks”) and the caveman romp Quest for Fire, presents a simple premise. An orphaned cub wanders the wilderness until it finds an adult bear friend; presently, both become the targets of hunters. Along the way, it falls off trees into rushing rivers and trips out after it eats the wrong kinds of mushrooms. If you thought you knew everything about nature movies and/or the scope of No Age's talent, prepare to be duly surprised.
