51-Year-Old Woman Fatally Struck by Off-Duty Officer near Bethel Avenue

SANGER, CA (April 21, 2023) – Wednesday morning, Ana Ortega was killed in a pedestrian accident on Clinton Avenue.

The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m., at the intersection of East Clinton and North Bethel Avenue.

Per reports, a 45-year-old off-duty officer driving a pickup-truck struck a woman who was walking her dog on a paved road.

Upon impact, the officer pulled over and attempted life-saving measures on the female pedestrian. However, medics later pronounced 51-year-old Ortega, of Sanger dead at the scene.

In addition, Ortega’s dog was taken to Fresno County SPCA with significant injuries.

Following preliminary duties, authorities do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor. Although, investigators are looking into distracted driving as a potential cause.
