Woman Pronounced Dead after High-Speed Crash near Highway 59

MERCED COUNTY, CA (June 2, 2022) – Sunday morning, Ana Meraz was killed in a high-speed accident on East Mission Avenue.

Around 11:29 p.m., Adrian Meraz failed to stop at the intersection of Highway 59 and Mission Avenue.

As a result, the 2016 Ford Fusion driven by Meraz, collided with a southbound 2017 Toyota Tacoma, driven by Reynaldo Vasquez. Investigators say both vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed.

As a result of the impact, 30-year-old Ana Meraz, of Merced, suffered life-threatening injuries. Paramedics rushed her to Merced Medical Center, where she later died.

The sons of the Meraz couple were in the back seat of the Ford Fusion at the time. Adrian Meraz, Vasquez, and the children sustained minor injuries.

Speed is currently suspected to be a factor in the collision. However, an active investigation is still underway.
