As part of the ALOUD Lecture Series, Carlos Santana discusses his new memoir, The Universal Tone: Bringing My Story to Light, with Cheech Marin. In this book, the legendary axman talks about his life and music, beginning with his humble childhood in Mexico and growing up in ‘60s San Francisco. He traces his career from forming The Santana Blues Band to his career-defining slot at Woodstock (famously performed under the influence of psychedelics) to his massive, late-’90s comeback album, Supernatural. He also includes personal stories about Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, Miles Davis, Bill Graham and other musical heavyweights.
