An (Early) Morning in the Life of Lodge Bread Co.'s Bakers

Sounding more like the genesis of a punk band than a bakery, the story behind Culver City's Lodge Bread Co. is that it had its humble beginnings in a garage. The mornings of owner/partners Alex Phaneuf and Or Amsalam begin when some Angelenos are just getting to bed, and with the help of copious amounts of coffee, they stay open until they run out of loaves. Their house-made accoutrements — butter, jams and pickles — all highlight the masterfully made bread. Photos by Yasmin Alishav.
