An August Roundup of Restaurant Openings and Closings

Summer is nearly over, but the heat shows no signs of slowing. Here to help is Brentwood's newest sugary addition, Sweet Crush Ice Bar. The frozen dessert shop brings “traditional Asian shaved ice to the masses” with flavors such as Earl Grey, mango, coconut and grapefruit ginger.

With the end of a season comes the end of the line for certain eateries around town. When one door closes, another opens. And in cases such as Starry Kitchen (now located inside of Tiara Cafe), which closed and opened again in less than two months, the door swings both ways. Some aren't so lucky. Kosher restaurant La Seine folded after less than two years of business. And AK Supper Club, located inside Capri restaurant, announced its closure: “We have departed from the Abbot Kinney spot and will be looking for our next venture,” the owner posted on Facebook. More closures are coming to Abbot Kinney. Jin Patisserie and Lilly's French Cafe & Bar will not make it to September due to staggering rents, according to LAist.

In opening news, Schmuck with a Truck recently rolled out, bringing New York deli food to L.A. And Potato Corner is coming soon to Westfield Century City Mall and Westfield Fashion Square in Sherman Oaks. Read on for a list of August restaurant openings and closings.
