Kid Trash

Scissorhands (Kid Trash)

An Aquadoll Gets Into Kid Trash: Melissa Brooks of SoCal rockers the Aquadolls told us about her love for a Kid Trash gem, and her bandmates chimed in too.

Melissa Brooks: Amidst the chaos of quarantine first hitting in March 2020, I found myself often stretched across my bed scrolling TikTok. One night, I came across a colorful glitchy video of someone lip-synching to a Kid Trash song. It was then that I was captivated by their sparkling synthesizer sounds, loud bass and distorted auto tuned vocals. After reaching out and being lucky to have collaborated with Kid Trash on my song “Straight 2 Hell” produced by Yung Skrrt, shortly after they sent me their 2021 album Scissorhands early to listen to and treated my ears to such pleasant musical productions.

The album opens with the song “Ice Cream”, which sounds like just that: a sweet icy treat to your ears with a cool tropical-like beat that sounds like sipping a piña colada on the beach at sunset. One of my favorite things about Kid Trash’s songwriting is their use of juxtaposition with upbeat and seemingly happy music production paired lyrics with much darker messages, such as finding yourself and going through the haziness and chaos of life.

“Palm Angels” is a track that hits hard like a early 2000s happy hard-core song. Lyrics like “I keep my mouth shut with staples

Baby don’t you know, you’re my palm tree angel, Messed up, fell in love with a raver

I’m so lost, but I stay so faithful” feels like sitting in the back of a dark rave missing someone, but then going back to the dance floor to try to forget your worries.

Scissorhands is an album that takes you on a beautiful dark journey that you can simultaneously dance and cry to and definitely deserves more hype!

Jackie Proctor: I think my all time favorite album is The Color and The Shape by the Foo Fighters. I’ll never forget when I heard “Everlong” for the first time. From that point on I knew I was born to rock.

Keilah Nina: The Fame by Lady Gaga is my favorite album of all time. I remember hearing Gaga on the radio for the first time as a kid and just WISHING that I could be her. It’s an album that has stuck by me forever, truly a timeless pop classic!
