As long as a little R & R is included in your plan for the Sabbath, churchgoer and pagan alike can use this news. Reigning indie rap label Stones Throw has just announced that it's teaming with Amoeba Music to throw a series of Sunday afternoon DJ sets at the Hollywood store throughout the month of August. Each event begins at a post-service-friendly 1pm and lasts an hour.

Leimert Park funkstronaut Dâm-Funk kicks things off this Sunday, August 2. The man is a notoriously rigorous expert in '80s funk and a bona-fide vinyl junkie, as evidenced by his most recent Stones Throw podcast, an incredible gospel-influenced mix titled “Spiritual Flight,” which you can download via iTunes here. Below, you'll find further evidence of Dâm's mastery of the funky form – snippets from his currently in-progress Toeachizown quintuple LP.

Stones Throw Sundays continues on August 9 with the label's other rising star, blue-eyed soul man Mayer Hawthorne. Check out the “Just Ain't Gonna Work Out” video below, and watch for Dâm-Funk, who steals Mayer's potential girl.

Beat Junkies turntablist J.Rocc spins on August 16 (download his March 3 Dilla tribute podcast, “Thank You Jay Dee, Act 4”, here), and August 23 features Stones Throw CEO Peanut Butter Wolf, whose cheeky videocast appears below. The final date, August 30, is reserved for a special guest. Madlib, perhaps? Might have to pray for that one.
