Berkeley's legendary Triple Rock Brewery and Alehouse, the oldest original brewpub in the United States and one of the best, comes to the Blue Palms Brewhouse in Hollywood all day this Friday. You will be able to meet Rodger Davis, head brewer at Triple Rock, and also Brian Thorson, head brewer at fellow Bay Area favorite Drake's Brewing. This is an opportunity to enjoy a superb selection of Triple Rock's and Drake's world-class beers, which rarely make their way to the Los Angeles market.

Triple Rock is celebrating its 25th Anniversary, having been opened in 1986 in Berkeley by brothers John and Reid Martin, now considered the founding fathers of the brewpub movement. John is also now one of the co-owners of Drake's, a highly-regarded craft brewer that has been brewing in San Leandro since 1989.

Brian Lenzo, the Dude at Blue Palms, will be turning over all 24 of his rotating tap handles to an insanely strong line up of Triple Rock and Drake's beers including TR's barrel-aged Keyser Soze 15% ABV Imperial Stout, IPAX West Coast IPA, a Reunion Tour Sour, and 25th Anniversary Sour. The Drake's rarities will include Stygian Witches (a barleywine aged in brandy barrels), Simian Sour (aged in cabernet Sauvignon barrels), Batch 3000 (a black pale ale if that's not an oxymoron), and Drakonic Imperial Stout.

Blue Palms will open for lunch at 11:30 am Friday, May 6, with half of the taps dedicated to TR/Drake's. As the evening progresses, they will bring on more and more taps until the entire 24 are taken over by the sublime Bay Area brews. The gifted guest brewers will be available for discussion during the evening for the beer groupies among us.

You have another chance to meet the brewer and sample 11 of the Triple Rock/Drake's brews at The Surly Goat in West Hollywood this Thursday, May 5, from 6 p.m. on. If you want to avoid the Cinco de Mayo crowds and have way better beer, hit the Goat. Ryan Sweeney, El Hombre at the Goat, says he is crazy excited about the fact that his eleven offerings will be rarities we don't get in L.A. If Ryan is excited, beer fans should be too.

Finally, if you find yourself closer to the LBC than West Hollywood, you can meet Brian Thorson of Drake's and drink seven of his best brews at Congregation Ale House in Long Beach on Thursday, May 5, from 7 p.m. to close. Congregation features 32 taps and will be doling out Drake's collector glasses to the first patrons who show up.

Whichever of these three beer bars you end up at, you will be glad you did. Better yet, hit all three. The Beachwood BBQ Triple Rock/Drake's event last year was one of the best beer bar events in the Southland for 2010.
