Apparently Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz loves him some Super Troopers and Beerfest. So much so that he decided to approach the Broken Lizard comedy troupe — Kevin Heffernan, Jay Chandrasekhar, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske — about appearing in and helping produce a pet film project of his. Co-written by Duritz pal and musician Dave Gibbs, Freeloaders tells the story of a group of friends whose mooching days are cut short when their rock-star buddy decides to sell his crib. “Adam was famous for people coming into town and living on his couch,” notes Lizard's Heffernan. “So these guys wrote about living on Adam's couch, specifically about trying to hold onto living on Adam's couch. Apparently it was a really nice couch to live on.” (Duritz coincidentally plays the film's generous artiste.) The independently financed comedy has no official release date; in fact Heffernan calls the evening's screening and “well-oiled” performances by both Lizard and Crows a “fun, different way to show the movie to people — and to buyers.”
