Imagine wandering through an event and discovering a crowd of smiling faces, moving bodies and interlocking rhythms reverberating within a chorus of voices. It feels alluringly joyful, like a fusion of a movement workshop and a live music concert. This is Alyssa’s Body of Sound activation experience that can be found at numerous festivals and private events.

Among the rise of alternative movement and sound healing modalities, what makes Body of Sound unique is the combination of rhythm, voice, and movement. It blends wellness practices and healing arts with expressive and performing arts to create a truly transformative journey. Alyssa DeCaro has mastered the art of facilitation and she brings a fresh approach to a saturated field. Alyssa says, “Most of us are longing for connection, not only to each other but also to ourselves. This practice reminds us of simply being human together. When you think about it, all of our most basic human experiences such as laughing, crying, experiencing fear, surprise, pain or pleasure are most often accompanied by a natural expression of sound. We are bodies of sound. When we tune our own instrument, we tune in to the whole orchestra and feel a sense of belonging.”

DeCaro’s mission was shaped by major obstacles that derailed her course and ultimately led her down a healing path. Her life significantly shifted when she experienced several debilitating knee injuries while training to be a professional dancer. This devastating blow revealed how much she had been striving for fulfillment from the external world, and thus she began the journey inward, discovering the beauty of movement from the inside out. She studied extensively with and assisted Anna Halprin (Dance As A Healing Art) and Baba Olatunji (Drums of Passion), both legends in their respective fields. DeCaro’s passion for music and dance took her around the world to study various forms of cultural body music and drumming throughout Southeast Asia, West Africa, and South America.

In 2006, Alyssa’s founded Body Of Sound, to help people tune into their bodies as their most essential instrument. Her mission is to uplift and inspire through music, movement and community.

With over twenty years of experience, DeCaro has shared her contagious passion through teaching and performing at several high-level venues ranging from the TED Conference in Long Beach, California to the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, which is renowned as the birthplace for the human potential movement, and has been a home to countless innovative teachers and visionaries to develop and share their work.

DeCaro produces uplifting events that incorporate movement, music and community including Raise The Roof: A Party To Uplift & Inspire, plus retreats such as Dreaming In The Desert (Joshua Tree, CA) and Mountain Magic Camp (Santa Cruz Mtns, CA) both of which are 4 day events. These weekends offer wellness and embodiment practices, such as yoga and meditation every morning, dance classes, performances with live music and DJ’s every night, and deliciously catered food.  Retreat attendees can expect a fun-filled experience that builds a long-lasting community. DeCaro also designs transformational experiences that can be tailored for private events ranging from weddings to corporate conferences where Body of Sound workshops and performances are integrated throughout the event to create playful, interactive, and memorable experiences.
