An alleged suspect in the murder of 24-year-old Brianna Kupfer was arrested in Pasadena, Wednesday.

Shawn Laval Smith, 31, was detained by Pasadena PD, before being taken into custody by LAPD, Wednesday.

“We can confirm, Shawn Laval Smith, the suspect responsible for the murder of Brianna Kupfer is in custody, after being located and detained by Pasadena PD around 11:50 a.m. this morning in the area of Fair Oaks and Colorado Blvd.,” LAPD tweeted out Wednesday.

Pasadena PD detained Smith after LAPD identified him as a suspect and posting surveillance footage of a suspect from a 7-Eleven on Beverly Boulevard, about 30 minutes before the murder.

At the time of the January 13 incident, Kupfer was working at Croft House furniture store on North La Brea Avenue. Police believe that she was stabbed by the suspect before fleeing from the store’s back door. It is not believed that Kupfer or Smith had any connection prior to the incident.

Police received a call for “Ambulance Assault with a Deadly Weapon” at 1:50 p.m., minutes after Kupfer sent a friend a message of concern after the suspect walked into the store. A customer found Kupfer in a puddle of blood soon after.

As of this writing, there is no known motive for the attack.
