Six Nicaraguan banana workers were awarded $2.3 million in 2007 after they claimed that pesticides at Dole Food Co. banana plantations made them sterile. But now a Los Angeles judge is considering throwing out the verdict and pointing a finger at the men for alleged fraud.

It turns out that the six might have been recruited by Los Angeles attorney Juan J. Dominguez and a Nicaraguan associate, who are now alleged to have hatched a scheme to defraud Dole out of billions via similar lawsuits across the nation, according to Associated Press.

The six Nicaraguans didn't even work at Dole, the company alleges. The company claims the men were part of a “fraud army,” and Judge Victoria Chaney, who could reverse the verdict Tuesday, said the alleged scheme is “outrageous and profound.”
