Glassell Park is about to turn into Pine Valley, Pennsylvania, as ABC's long-running soap opera All My Children is about to move from its New York studio to facilities in the Los Angeles neighborhood. ABC TV News reports that the move will occur in December, followed by shooting in the week of January 4, 2010, when the show, which will turn 40, will be broadcast in high definition. Variety notes that the recession is imposing continued belt-tightening on daytime soaps. Although blessed with comparatively low production costs, daytime serials stretching from today's The Guiding Light all the way back to Dark Shadows in the early 1970s have been unceremoniously dumped during hard economic times when their ratings dipped a bit.

Variety quotes from L.A. City Council president Eric Garcetti's blog that “We have been working hard to bring production back, and this is great.”
