The London-based contemporary dance troupe Hofesh Shecter Company, led by an alum of Israel's celebrated Batsheva Dance Company, makes its West Coast debut. Shecter has become known as much for his composing as his ferocious yet precise choreography. This 17-member ensemble arrives with two of Shecter's most praised works, Uprising and In Your Rooms, both set to Shecter scores. The 2006 protests in Paris that erupted in violence and arson informs Uprising, with seven male dancers tearing up the stage before reaching an eerie stasis. From the macro-political the mood shifts to the micro-personal, as 12 dancers elicit the aching yet frustrating search for personal intimacy.
