The song “The 12 Days of Christmas” is a beloved holiday tune. And, it also happens to be one of the most popular ways to play with the hidden meanings behind yuletide traditions. After all, who doesn’t love spy-ing on what these secret messages might mean? Because while we’re all familiar with this holiday song, you may not have stopped to think about why a peacock or pear trees appear in this festive verse. The same goes for holly, ivy, and of course those 12 dancing lords!
