2-Year-Old Boy Fatally Struck in Pedestrian Crash near Friant Road

FRESNO, CA (April 14, 2022) – Early Saturday night, 2-year-old Alfonso Vega Jr. was killed in a pedestrian accident in Los Lake Park.

Officers responded to the scene around 6:40 p.m., at the Lost Lake Recreation Area near North Friant Road. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.

Per reports, Alfonso walked into the roadway when the driver of a slowly passing truck struck him. Upon impact, the driver immediately pulled over and called 911.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the young boy dead. Officers say his parents were packing up their vehicle to leave the park at the time.

The involved truck driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. However, authorities have not yet released their identity.

At this time, Fresno officials continue to investigate the fatal pedestrian collision. Once available, further details will be provided.
