Victims of the Highway 3 Head-On Collision Identified; One Killed

HAYFORK, CA (May 17, 2021) – Monday, Alexander Jiminez and Irais Hernandez-Mateo were injured in a deadly crash on Highway 3.

According to the CHP, a northbound 2006 Honda S2000 swerved over the double yellow lines. There, the driver struck a southbound 2017 Toyota 4Runner.

Per reports, the front of the Toyota collided with the driver’s side of the Honda. Then, the Honda came to rest in the middle of Highway 3 while the Toyota stopped in the southbound traffic lane.

Eventually, the Trinity County Life Support, the Hayfork Volunteer Fire Department and CHP arrived at the wreckage.

Despite life-saving efforts, the driver of the Honda died at the scene. Authorities only identified the deceased victim to be a 34-year-old Hayford Resident.

Meanwhile, medics airlifted the two Toyota occupants to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. They were later identified as 26-year-old Irais Hernandez-Mateo and his 5-year-old son Alexander Jiminez.

At this time, the police are considering intoxication to be the possible factor that contributed to the crash. However, more information will be released once available.

Our warm and sincerest sympathies go out to the friends and family of the deceased victim during this tragic time.
