DUI Driver Strikes and Kills David Smith in Fatal Collision on Highway 99

SACRAMENTO, CA (May 19, 2021) – Saturday, police arrested 19-year-old Alan Reyes after killing David Smith in a DUI crash on Highway 99.

A northbound Chevy Silverado encountered traffic and swerved off the road at a high rate of speed in attempt to avoid collisio

The Silverado crossed all four lanes of Highway 99 before crashing into a concrete center divider. One of the occupants inside the Chevy Silverado was ejected onto the road.

In addition, a northbound Honda Odyssey traveling in the fast lane collided with the Silverado head-on.

As a result, the driver of the Odyssey later identified as a 31-year-old male, died at the scene.

Shortly after, a Nissan Murano in the fast lane tried to avoid striking the vehicles and veered into the center divider. Consequently, the driver of the Murano struck the ejected passenger.

Later, the paramedics took one of the passengers to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, medical personnel transported the Chevy Silverado Driver to an area hospital with moderate injuries.

Officers later evaluated the driver of the Chevy and arrested him for suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter. The Sacramento Police Department identified the driver as 19-year-old Alan Reyes.
