Sandra Ortiz Arrested after Fatal DUI Incident near Mar Vista Drive

VISTA, CA (July 7, 2023) – Sunday evening, a DUI-involved crash on State Route 78 left Alan Gerardo Aguilar and Amy Monserrat Beltran dead. The incident happened on June 18th, around 6:12 p.m., on State Route 78, near Mar Vista Drive. According to reports, the victims’ mother, Sandra Ortiz, was driving under the influence. She was operating a GMC Yukon with her six unsecured children, along State Route 78. While they were traveling, some luggage fell off of their vehicle. Ortiz pulled over onto the highway’s right shoulder and let two of her children, Aguilar and Beltran, out to retrieve the luggage from the freeway. However, while they were walking along the freeway, a Nissan Sentra traveling in the far right lane struck the two children. The driver of the Sentra immediately pulled over and waited for authorities to arrive. First responders to the site of the crash pronounced 10-year-old Alan Gerardo Aguilar and 16-year-old Amy Monserrat Beltran dead at the scene. Following the incident, authorities arrested 33-year-old Sandra Ortiz, for suspected gross vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence. Ortiz is currently being held on a $500,000 bail. Meanwhile, relatives of Alan Gerardo Aguilar and Amy Monserrat Beltran have started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.
