Alan Fitzpatrick is Vibing on Machine Therapy: UK techno artist Alan Fitzpatrick releases his first album in 10 years on November 12. So we have to wonder — where the hell has he been?

“I’m always working on singles, EPs, collaborating with other artists, but it’s just never felt like the right time for a new album,” Fitzpatrick says. “I’ve had other priorities. In early 2020 I realized it was coming up on the 10 year anniversary of my last studio album and it just felt right. Unbeknownst to me COVID was around the corner, hence the slight delay in releasing the project.”

Fitzpatrick says that his sound is an expression if who he is as an artist.

“My music has always been versatile, driving, and energetic,” he says. “But I’m done with fitting neatly into categories; tech-house, electronica, techno. Coming out of lockdown, I’m playing for myself again. Vibing with the crowd and producing/playing tracks which make me happy.”

That new album is the appropriately titled Machine Therapy.

“The main concept was using the studio as an escape during an extremely difficult time in my life,” he says. “Not just my life but everyone’s lives. I produced the bulk of the album during the lockdown in 2020 and I’m sure the tracks reflect that. My touring schedule only allowed so many hours in the studio but during covid I had the opportunity to lock myself away in there for hours, experimenting with the hardware. It was a very emotive process.”

The Brit says that studio time during the pandemic was strange.

I usually test my finished tracks at clubs and use the crowd reaction for feedback,” he says. “Clubs were closed and with everyone being at home, I think my desire to write big room techno diminished. I tried to express myself through the music, I think that’s obvious from the style of the album.”

With that done, Fitzpatrick has plenty planned for the remainder of the year and going into 2022.

“My diary is really busy again which is great,” he says. “After a year of no shows it feels amazing to be back at clubs and festivals. I’ll be in the USA in November and then finishing off the year in Europe/UK. Other than that I’ve planned some studio time to write music under my 3STRANGE alias.”
