Smog envelops more than the skies in L.A. these days. The dubstep collective record label and club of the same name continues to bring L.A. — mainly downtown — grimy goodness on a regular basis, and this Saturday, SMOG marks its three-year anniversary doing parties with the U.K.’s Plastician (Rinse FM radio). Pounding bass, ominous two-step rhythms and psychotic syncopated mixes make this dub rub anything but noise pollution. Also with S.F.’s Babylon System, 12th Planet and more. Lot 613, 613 Imperial St., dwntwn.; Sat., Aug. 29, 9 p.m.-4 a.m.; over 21; $15 presale; $20 at the door. smogla.com. House grooves both chill and off the hook have made MONDAY SOCIAL one of the longest-running weekly electronic showcases in town, so when this stalwart changes locales, it’s a big deal. That’s exactly what they did recently, moving from Nacional to the Playhouse down the street. This Monday will be a fine night to get newly socialized, as DJ Steve Porter (recently named No. 2 in DJTimes.com’s America’s Best DJ poll) pops in for a session. He’s also known for his popular YouTube video mixes (meshing everything from sports press conferences to infomercials), and Porter’s pop culture–infused techno should play just fine at M.S.’s big new digs. 6506 Hollywood Blvd., Hlywd.; Mon., Aug. 31, 10 p.m.- 2 a.m.; over 21; $15 with RSVP at rsvp@budbrothers.com; $20 at the door without. mondaysocial.com.
