After three years in business, Atwater Village Farm Market will be closing on December 16. Owner Piper Goldstein made the announcement via Tumblr and Instagram earlier this week.

Goldstein, an urban farmer, personal chef and community activist opened the store on a shoe-string budget with funds raised on Kickstarter in 2010. Today, she is courageously battling cancer and can no longer physically put the effort in to keep the shop open:

We announce with a heavy heart that we will be closing our doors on December 16. We will be open from 10:00 to 5:00 until then, with 30% off all remaining inventory. We would like to thank you for your patronage over the past three years.

A champion of small purveyors, cottage food producers and local artisans, Atwater Village Farm Market supported many top-notch products such as Lemon Bird Jams, Brassica and Brine and Almond Milk LA. The store was a hub of activity in the small pedestrian-friendly neighborhood and was one of only a few small grocery stores in the area.

We wish Goldstein and her staff the best. The store will be missed.
