Party PickAfro Punk Bowie seeks to celebrate David Bowie in an exciting new way. First of all get a load of the lineup: Fishbone’s Angelo Moore, Norwood Fisher, Chris Dowd plus Lenny Kravitz’s touring drummer Franklin Vanderbilt and Steve Abagon make up the band. Then there’s the beautifully-monikered (ok, we’re biased as a fellow Lina)– Linafornia opening with a DJ set! The evening promises surprises as well, with uniquely punky and funky takes on Bowie’s stellar material, all performed under Wisdome’s 360 VR dome. Wisdome and promoter Kentyah say that the intention of the project is “to explore aspects of Bowie’s catalog, with a noteworthy cadre of progressive musicians playing unique interpretations.” We saw Moore cover Bowie in 2017 and as we said in our review, Dr. Madd Vibe knows how to “emulate Bowie’s flamboyant showmanship” in his own way. Here’s hoping he’ll share his ferocious versions of “Ashes to Ashes” and “Moonage Daydream.”  There’s also a “Mystic Universe Exhibition” outside of the dome in the surrounding artpark which features a gallery and an interactive exhibition, selfie zones, ambient performers, and vendors. The promoters also encourage dressing up in your favorite Starman outfit for VIP upgrades. Afro Punk Bowie, Doors at 4 p.m. Live performance at 9:30 p.m. Park at the Mateo Garage, 1262 Palmetto St., Downtown L.A.
