Adobe Punk is a Theatrical Zine Scene

Punk rock, East L.A. and zine culture collide in Adobe Punk- A Theatrical Zine with Music, a new interdisciplinary stage show written by Girl In A Coma’s Nina Diaz and Theresa Chavez (Artistic Director of About…Productions). Melding real and fictional figures and ideas, the show features original songs reflecting life in the 80’s, where a group of young squatters based in Bell Gardens create a rebellious songbook reflecting their lives, hopes and dreams. Adobe references how the characters’ music evolves and grows in one of L.A.’s oldest neighborhoods and homes, and explores the search for artistic identity- it’s challenges and inspirations.

Evoking stage musical, rock show and performance art, the organic format promises something fresh for both theater lovers and live music fans, especially after the pandemic hibernation most of us have been in. Diaz co-wrote the music and performs alongside cast members including Karis Brizendine, Isaac Cruz, and Giselle Etessami. The collective behind the show also includes Chavez’s son Gabriel Garza, music director Sage Lewis, set designer Dorothy Hoover and production manager Angela Sonner. Chavez directs.
