THURSDAY, July 10

Comedy Walk claims to be “the biggest comedy-walk
event in the world.” They must be joking. Who hasn’t wanted to walk out
of a comedy show? Now you can walk out of several in one night. Six
venues host six simultaneous 90-minute shows. That’s a new comic every
10 minutes. And it’s free. What have you got to lose? True, your car
will probably get vandalized, but at least you’ll have had a few
laughs. All venues are near the Alexandria Room, 501 S. Spring St., dwntwn.; Thurs., July 10, 8:30 p.m.; free. Print free ticket at www.comedywalk.com.

FRIDAY, July 11

Head tripper Dan Deacon. See Friday.

Summertime is when we worship at the throne of the Getty. Not only are the kid concerts wonderful, but the monthly Fridays Off the 405 series is also the perfect after-work wind-down, or -up, depending on how bad your week was. Dan Deacon, a spazzy goofball who’s sorta like the Captain Kangaroo of electronic music, provides loony beats with something called a “sine-wave generator,” which you kids probably know all about. He’s from Baltimore, which explains a lot. The Getty Center, 1200 Getty Center Dr., Brentwood; Fri., July 11, 6-9 p.m.; free, parking $8. (310) 440-7300.

SATURDAY, July 12

Truman Capote wrote songs? Jack Kerouac, Dorothy Parker and Langston Hughes, too? Chanteusey floozy — in the best way — Suzy Williams brings The Lit Show, where she will also perform her own music set to writings by Shakespeare, Vonnegut, Nabokov, Lewis Carroll, Steinbeck, Baudelaire and Raymond Chandler. If this idea takes off, maybe she could expand into setting the Pulitzer Prize–winning prose of the Weekly’s Jonathan Gold to music. Beyond Baroque, 681 Venice Blvd., Venice; Sat., July 12, 7:30 p.m.; $10. (310) 822-3006 or www.beyondbaroque.org.

SUNDAY, July 13

Brazil nuts are excited about the L.A. debut of samba legends Grupo Revelação playing at Brazilian Summer Festival 2008. The fest is one of the more colorful gatherings you’re likely to see outside of São Paulo, and also features Dodo’s Master Show, a wild percussive presentation complete with dancers; Mestre Amén’s Capoeira Batuque; and the Ki-Xego Forró Band. All kinds of food, arts and crap, DJs and more complete the scene. Queen Mary, look for the big boat at the end of the 710 fwy.; Sun., July 13, 5 p.m.; $45, $40 at the door, $12 children. (818) 566-1111 or www.braziliannites.com.

MONDAY, July 14

Must every moment of your leisure time be spent doing something that has NPR/Jon Stewart/Best Week Ever’s approval? Then you need a break from yourself for a film Vincent Canby loved so much, he wrote, “There’s always room in movies for unbridled amiability when it’s governed by intelligence and wit.” The Muppet Movie also features the voices of many dead people, including Milton Berle, Bob Hope, Madeline Kahn, Richard Pryor, Telly Savalas, Orson Welles and, of course, Jim Henson. Plus, it’s Bastille Day — what else are you gonna do? AFI at the ArcLight, 15301 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks; Mon., July 14, 7:30 p.m.; $11.50. (818) 501-0753.

TUESDAY, July 15

Nicol Paone — who does Arianna Huffington better than Arianna Huffington and is a stitch as Elaine Stritch on The Big Gay Sketch Show — asks, “Why Eat, Pray, Love when you can Eat, Yell, Hate? Comedy Central Stage, 6539 Santa Monica Blvd., Hlywd.; Tues., July 15, 8 p.m.; free, resv. required. (323) 960-5519.

WEDNESDAY, July 16

“Do You Believe in Magic?” Remember being “So Happy Together”? Hippiefest: A Concert for Peace & Love features Jack Bruce of Cream, Eric Burdon & the Animals, the Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie, Melanie, Badfinger with Joey Molland, and Jonathan Edwards. Aren’t you glad? I am. I’m so glad, I’m glad, I’m glad, I’m glad. Yes, that song rocks, but my 6-year-old writes better lyrics. But “If You Want It, Here It Is, Come and Get It.” “We’ve Gotta Get Out of This Place” — that means you, “Eleanor.” Greek Theatre, 2700 N. Vermont Ave., Griffith Park, L.A.; Wed., July 16, 7 p.m.; $30-$70. (213) 480-3232.

THURSDAY, July 17

Most any Thursday we’d recommend just about any act that might be playing the Santa Monica Pier for free. But tonight it’s something called Victoria’s Secret PINK Pinkapalooza, and they’re not naming the performer. So screw that, and opt for the ’bank — Burbank, that is. Highly regarded (meaning Ella-esque) jazzy vocalist Barbara Morrison steps up to the mike for Come Out and Dance!, the concert series where the Downtown Burbank Partnership wants to make sure you twinkle your toes: Free preshow dance lessons with Francisco and Stacey of the Dance Family Studio will be provided. AMC Walkway, Palm Ave. & San Fernando Blvd., Burbank; Thurs., July 17, 7 p.m.; dance lessons at 6 p.m. (818) 238.5180 or www.downtown-burbank.org.
