40-Year-Old Man, Passenger Dead after Wrong-Way Accident near Thomas Road

PHOENIX, AZ (March 22, 2022) – Thursday night, Aaron Griffen and his passenger were killed in a deadly head-on collision on 83rd Avenue.

The crash happened just after 9:00 p.m., near the intersection of 83rd Avenue and Thomas Road.

Police said that the driver of an eastbound pickup-truck veered into the westbound lanes for reasons unknown. As a result, the pickup-truck collided with an oncoming sedan.

Upon impact, one vehicle overturned, as reportedly seen in video footage. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, the sedan driver, Griffen, and his unidentified male passenger died at the scene.

Meanwhile, police did not disclose the identity of the pickup-truck’s driver. Although, crews reported that no arrests were made.

Following preliminary investigations, officers say impairment did not play a role in the deadly wrong-way crash. In addition, the surrounding area was closed until late Friday morning while police investigated the scene.
