L.A. Opera presents the return of the famed Robert Wilson setting of Puccini's tragic tale of love and betrayal. Liping Zhang makes her company debut as poor Cio-Cio San, the bride of no-good American Lieutenant Pinkerton, who marries her for greedy purposes and then forsakes her for a “proper” American wife. Cast includes tenor Franco Farina as Pinkerton, mezzo-soprano Catherine Keen as Suzuki, and baritone Stephen Powell as Sharpless (Oct.1, 5 & 8), with Michele Crider performing the role of Cio-Cio San on Oct. 18 and Ning Liang and Vladimir Chernov appearing as Suzuki and Sharpless Oct. 10-18. James Conlon conducts the L.A. Opera Orchestra and Chorus; directed and designed by Robert Wilson.
