Take a look at downtown Los Angeles as you may never have seen it before– from the rooftop patio of the historic Los Angeles Athletic Club.

Founded in 1880, the private club opens its doors this Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. for a wine, cheese and chocolate tasting that will be co-sponsored by L.A. Wine Tasting.

Selected from historic California and French vineyards, the wines will be matched with European cheeses from Nicole's Gourmet Foods in South Pasadena and bread from La Maison du Pain.

There will be light appetizers too and Valrhona Grand Cru chocolates to test the claim that red wines go well with chocolate.

A vintage welcome cocktail will carry out the historic theme, along with old-timey tunes from The Dustbowl Revival, a Venice-based folk-blues orchestra.

Tickets are $66 and must be ordered in advance. They will not be sold at the door. L.A . Wine Tasting has ticket information on its web page under “Soirees.” The Los Angeles Athletic Club is located at 432 W. 7th St. (213) 625-2211. Partygoers will check in in the lobby.
