Cartoon Network's popular animated series Adventure Time tracks the story of intrepid human Finn and his magical canine sidekick Jake, but the Emmy-winning result is significantly less tear-jerking and more bonkers than fellow boy-and-his-dog classics like Old Yeller. (Think less Where the Red Fern Grows and more Where Literally Anything Goes.) Since its debut in 2010, the dynamic duo's adventures (and frequent disasters) in the Land of Ooo have captivated a cult audience of both kids and adults, who now have a handy guidebook to follow should they lose track of the show's motley crew. The Adventure Time Encyclopedia: Inhabitants, Lore, Spells and Ancient Crypt Warnings of the Land of Ooo Circa 19.56 B.G.E.-501 A.G.E. is as comprehensive as its name, and both the book's author, Martin Olson, and many of the show's voice actors, including Emo Philips and Ron Lynch, will be in town this week to read passages, sign copies and answer audience questions as they connect the 2-D show with its 3-D fans. (The show is a benefit for the nonprofit presenting organization, Trepany House.) Trepany House at the Steve Allen Theater, 4773 Hollywood Blvd., Hlywd.; Wed., Dec. 18, 8 p.m.; $20.
